Bergen School of Architecture presents: Marina Bauer - TOWARDS OPEN FORM: becoming an architect at the end of history

When international collaborations are being dismantled, recession and the rhetoric of war dominate the news, alongside restrictions on freedom and the rise of alternative facts. When the climate crisis is no longer at the top of the agenda, and our understanding of the world is being rewritten, how can architects, and architecture itself, adapt in order to influence society in a positive direction?

OPAFORMs work could effectively be sorted in three categories: architectural design, teaching, and research through making. The distinction between these fields of operation is necessary to describe them, but this separation is not representative for the actual workflow. They are very much interwoven, one informs the other, the movement between them is not scripted. With the body as an anchor and architecture as a shelter we move towards open form through various projects.
