Introduction course in light engineering for live-events! This course will help you to start building experience in operating lights for concerts, clubs and live events.
GRIP is open to everyone over the age of 18, and we emphasize our goal of welcoming more cis-women, non-binary and transgender people in sound and lighting engineering roles in Bergen’s cultural organizations. No previous experience is needed.
Instructor Ola Fredenlund (he) has worked as a full-time lighting technician in Bergen for over 10 years. He started as a volunteer for Kraftetaten at Det Akademiske Kvarter and has since worked his way up in the industry. He has experience with all types of concerts, theater, festivals, and events, and has handled every aspect of the job as a rigger, systems technician, lighting operator, and designer. Some of his projects include Bergenfest, Festspillene i Bergen, and regular comedy shows at Ole Bull Scene and Peer Gynt-teatret at Gålå.

GRIP is an ongoing series of courses to give more people the opportunity to gain practical experience and skills in sound and light engineering. Cis-women, non-binary and transgender people are still strongly under-represented in the sound and light engineering field, and we want to change this! The development of the cultural scene is not just about creating a variety of people on stage, but also backstage – in production, light and sound engineering roles.
GRIP is a collaborative project between Bergen Kjøtt, Bergen Internasjonale Teater, Carte Blanche, AKKS Bergen, sound engineer Irene Bjørke and light engineer Maja Bergebakken Sundt.
GRIP is organized with partners in Bergen including Borealis – a festival for experimental music, Beyond the Gates festival, and Vill Vill Vest and is supported by Sparebanken Norge, Bergen kommune, Vestland fylkeskommune, Kulturrom, Balansekunst and apap-FEMINIST FUTURES (financed by the Creative Europe program in the EU).
